What is an Oil Filter Cutter?
You can use a special tool called an “oil filter cutter” to cut the filter open and visually inspect the filter media. There are a number of these filter cutters on the market, and they vary in price from relatively inexpensive to quite costly. It works like a giant-sized tubing cutter and is able to cut filters of up to 5 1/2 inches in diameter. It’s really quite easy to use.
